Health check-ups: at what age and how often?
A health check-up is one of the simplest tools of preventive medicine: taking stock before problems settle in. But when should you start, and how often should you repeat it?
A rhythm that depends on your profile
There is no single rule: the right frequency depends on your age, your personal and family history, and your lifestyle.
- Before 40, without particular risk factors, a check-up every three to five years covers the essentials: blood pressure, weight, lifestyle, vaccinations.
- Between 40 and 50, more regular monitoring makes sense, particularly for cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure.
- After 50, a more complete check-up is generally recommended at shorter intervals, including the screenings appropriate to your situation.
These are guidelines, not rules: a family history of diabetes, cardiovascular disease or cancer may justify starting earlier and checking more often. Adapting this schedule to your situation is precisely what a family doctor is for.
What a check-up at Smart Medical includes
A check-up at the practice includes an in-depth conversation, a complete clinical examination and, when medically indicated, laboratory tests. Our in-house laboratory performs blood draws and routine analyses on site — results are often available quickly and discussed directly during your visit.
